Research

Bipolar is caused by a chemical imbalance, It is not insanity or the sufferers fault.
This drug is said to improve mood, memory and concentration in patients whom are in the depressive phase of Bipolar Disorder. I was present at a MDF meeting discussing this and reproduced below is the pdoc's letter on the matter.

I volunteered to help with this research.

Project 2
09 May 2006
We are writing to you regarding a new project we are doing in collaboration with Professor Jan Scott and her research group at the Institute of Psychiatry. This is an exciting development in the field, as it is the first project to investigate how useful electronic monitoring devices (electronic mood diaries, actiwatches, and e-medicine caps) are for individuals who want to self-monitor their bipolar symptoms.
Learning how to self-monitor and keeping a mood diary are important elements of self-management and keeping well. This programme will help us to learn more about self-monitoring, and will also let us test how useful new computer technologies can be for doing this. It will also help us to evaluate better our self-management training courses and forthcoming online programmes.
The project is funded by
the Medical Research Council (MRC) and will run in two sites,
London and Newcastle. Due to the nature of the project, especially the high cost
of the electronic monitoring devices and its novelty, at this point only
a limited number of members will be able to participate. Interested
members who live outside the greater London and Newcastle areas will have to go
on a waiting list until we have further resources available to run the project
from more remote locations.
In the event that you can
take part, we will cover all project related expenses (devices,
travel, telephone costs etc) and provide all necessary training.
Thanks to the funding from the MRC, you may also receive some additional out of
pocket expenses.
Please see the project’s
website for additional information such as Information Sheets where everything
is explained in greater detail.

We are proud to be able to offer you the opportunity to participate in this exciting new project and we hope to hear back from you. Recruitment will be open for the next few months, but places are limited and suitable participants will take part on a “first come, first serve" basis.
I have also volunteered to help with the above research electronic mood recording.

I am
in the process of making positive changes in all areas of my life.
